Phase 2 explanation of graphemes (letters) and phonemes (sounds)
Practise reading and spelling words using each set: e.g. set 1 and 2: pin, tap, sat, man, pat, sap, sit, dad, did, pad, din. By the time children have become familiar with all of the phase 2 phonemes they should be able to read and spell words such as: sock, rock, huff, puff, hill, pull, his, boss, sunset, laptop. Children will generally be able to read these words much sooner than they will be able to spell them.

You could get your child to practise saying the phonemes for each of the cards.
Phase 2- tricky word explanation
Tricky words are words that children need to recognise by sight rather than 'sounding out' using their phonic knowledge. Practise reading and spelling these words.
